“Ugg boots” is a generic name for a type of sheepskin boot made in Australia and New Zealand. These boots have been made in these countries for over 200 years now. They were introduced in the United States in the 1970s, but they didn’t achieve popularity until the last 10 years or so.
The credit for popularizing these sheepskin boots in America is often given–surprisingly enough–to Pamela Anderson, the former Baywatch star. Ms. Anderson, it seems, would wear these boots to keep her legs warm between takes of the popular show. Whether this is true or not, ugg-style sheepskin boots have become immensely popular in this country.
This type of sheepskin boot provides both warmth and comfort. These boots have proven to be comfortable with surfers and competitive swimmers. They, too, are popular with outdoor enthusiasts of all stripes. Sheepskin boots are ideal for wearing around a campsite, for instance, to keep your feet warm during cold autumn nights. Sheepskin also provides a certain amount of water-resistance, so although you don’t want to wear them while wading in a cold stream, they can keep your feet dry when walking in the morning dew.
